Uzbekistan enforces international labor standards
Uzbekistan is keen on providing the international standards of decent work, including the creation of jobs and working conditions in which people can work in freedom, safety and dignity.
The implementation of Uzbekistan's Decent Work Country Program for 2014-2016 was discussed in a meeting between the representatives of the Uzbekistan Federation of Trade Unions with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the World Bank (WB) held in Tashkent on August 5-6.
Passing in format of round table on the theme "Progress in cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Labor Organization and the World Bank in the implementation of international labor standards", the sides discussed the practical aspects provided within the country's Program.
The significant work on the compliance with the ILO conventions by Uzbekistan's trade unions was highlighted at the meeting.
They also provided training for the country's government, experts and trade union trainers in the framework of the national and international labor standards of the ILO.
The sides discussed the current and future programs of the World Bank in Uzbekistan on the implementation of international labor standards, and the practice of hiring labor in the countryside.
"Today's meeting is the next stage of our continuing successful cooperation, which takes place in the framework of the Country Programme on Decent Work in Uzbekistan signed a year ago," said a special adviser to Director General of the International Labor Organization Kari Tapiola.
The round table was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, ILO delegation headed by the Director of the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) Corinne Varga and Special Adviser of the ILO Director Kari Tapiola, the delegation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), headed by INC adviser Anton Leppik, the delegation of the International Organization of Employers, as well as heads of international organizations and a number of diplomatic missions of foreign countries accredited in Tashkent.
Signing of the Decent Work Country Program for Uzbekistan for 2014-2016 became an important step in the further improvement of the situation in the labor market, enhancing productive employment, ensuring a targeted social security system and improving occupational safety and health.
The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan is the largest and main workers' organization, with 11 sectoral and 14 territorial organizations.
The important goal of the Federation is development of international trade unions cooperation.
Furthermore, there are also the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (CCIU), which is the largest employers' organization, with 14 regional offices in the provinces and in the capital city.
The CCIU has been taking part in national social dialogue and in international activities since its founding. The CCIU is recognized by Government institutions and trade unions as a partner defending and promoting the employers' interests, including those of small enterprises.
The system of international standards aimed at promoting opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equity, security and dignity has maintained and developed be the International Labor Organization since 1919.
Currently, the international labor standards are an essential component in the international framework for ensuring that the growth of the global economy provides benefits to all.
