Unemployment rate in Uzbekistan remains at 5.2%

Official unemployment rate in Uzbekistan has remained unchanged since early 2016 at 5.2 percent in H1 2016, while employment accounted for 94.8 percent of the economically active population, said the Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

Uzbekistan’s economically active population amounted to 13.192 million people in H1 2016, or 1.8 percent more than in the same period 2015.

Out of those employed, 18.2 percent work in the public sector as of H1 2016, as compared to 18.4 percent in the same period 2015, while 81.8 percent of the employed people work in the non-public sector (81.6 percent in H1 2015).

The number of those employed in the small business has increased from 77.3 percent to 77.7 percent.

The number of those employed has grown in the following types of economic activity: transportation and storage - 3.8 percent, accommodation and catering services - 3.7 percent, information and communications - 3.4 percent, construction - 3.3 percent and trade - 2.8 percent.

Out of those employed, 27 percent accounted for agricultural sector, forestry and fish industry, 13.6 percent – for industry, 10.4 percent – for trade, 9.4 percent – for construction and 8.4 percent – for education.

Uzbekistan’s resident population has increased by 0.7 percent since early 2016 and stood at 31.807 million.
