Prospects of Uzbekistan's accession to the International Road Federation

30 January 2020

Uzbekistan's Ambassador to the United States, Javlon Vakhabov met with IRF Vice-President for International Programs and Member Services Magid Elabyad to discuss prospects of joining of Uzbekistan to the IRF.

According to Magid Elabyad, Uzbekistan's membership in the International Road Federation will allow the country to get information about the latest achievements and technologies in road industry, exchange experience with other countries in construction of toll roads, installation of road signs and markings, improvement of territories adjacent to the highway.

In addition, if the country joins the Federation, IRF will allocate quotas for Uzbekistan to study short-term courses at various U.S. universities to increase knowledge in management and effective management of its financial assets in road construction sector.

Currently, International Road Federation includes 118 countries, among the CIS countries – Belarus and Azerbaijan.

Uzbekistan's accession to the International Road Federation is stipulated by the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improve the road industry management system” (December 9, 2019), which defines tasks for joining international organizations in roads.
