Address to compatriots in the United States, Canada and other countries of Americas and friends of Uzbekistan

18 April 2020

Dear compatriots in the United States, Canada and other countries of Americas,

Dear friends of Uzbekistan,

We are all aware of the serious threats that the coronavirus pandemic has been posing to the entire world. Unfortunately, the spread of COVID-19 affects the developing countries more than others and Uzbekistan is no exception.

The widespread COVID-2019 is leading to a global economic crisis. Its negative impact on the socio-economic situation in Uzbekistan exacerbates the plight of the vulnerable strata.

The Government of Uzbekistan has assessed the critical situation with the coronavirus in advance and has taken all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-2019 and mitigate the negative impact of the global crisis on the economy.

Nowadays, the representatives from all professional areas, diplomatic missions abroad, including Uzbekistan's Embassy in Washington DC, the Permanent Mission to the UN and the Consulate General in New York, as well as our generous compatriots are supporting our people combating COVID-2019.

To help the people of Uzbekistan fighting against the consequences of the coronavirus, our compatriots, friends and Uzbek-American associations in the United States and Canada under the auspices of diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in the United States have launched a charity fundraising "WE CARE ABOUT UZBEKISTAN".

The collected funding will be transferred to the public fund "O'zbekiston mehr-shafqat va salomatlik" ("Uzbekistan - mercy and health"), established to efficiently distribute among following areas:

- providing medical care to patients with coronavirus infection;

- the acquisition of hygiene and protection, medical and special equipment;

- construction, reconstruction, and repair of healthcare facilities;

- providing the necessary assistance to the vulnerable population.

We call all our compatriots and friends, who consider Uzbekistan close to them, who are not indifferent to the health of our people and the future of our country, to take an active part in the charity campaign "WE CARE ABOUT UZBEKISTAN"
(GoFundMe: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/wecareaboutuzbekistan).

Undoubtedly, these funds will help prevent and eliminate the spread of COVID-2019 and ease its negative consequences to people in our country.

We are confident that our people, who have gone through many trials in its long history, will courageously overcome these difficulties with your solidarity (contact information: +1202-2518298; +1202-7658883; +1347-2174406; +1917-5394664).
