The 4th meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on work with the WTO takes place

On 29 June 2020, in the form of video conference, under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov, the 4th meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for Work with the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held. The event was also attended by members of the Negotiating Group on the entry of Uzbekistan into the WTO.

During the meeting, issues related to the upcoming 4th meeting of the Working Group on the entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the WTO were discussed.

It was discussed that, taking into account the current epidemiological situation, the fourth meeting of the Working Group on the entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the WTO will be held on 7 July 2020 in a “hybrid” format, where delegations from foreign diplomatic missions in Geneva will be present in the conference room of the Organization’s headquarters , and expert groups, including the delegation of Uzbekistan, will participate through video conferencing.

The resumption of the WTO accession process is indicated in the Strategy for the Further Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021. and is one of the key areas of development of the country's foreign economic activity due to its integration into the multilateral trading system. In this regard, it was emphasized that the process of accession to the WTO is an important task and requires the prompt resolution of a set of issues affecting a number of factors of the country's socio-economic development.

Attention is drawn to the fundamental importance of further improving the effectiveness of the Negotiating Group and thematic working groups in preparing documents related to accession to the WTO.

Following the meeting, a number of decisions were adopted aimed at the effective organization of the 4th meeting of the Working Group and the negotiation process as a whole, as well as increasing the responsibility of the members of the Negotiating Group.
