Latvian PM invites Uzbekistan to develop transit cooperation

www.baltic-course.com/eng of 2/14/2013 - During a meeting with the new Uzbek Ambassador to Latvia Afzal Artikov today, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis invited Uzbekistan to develop transit cooperation with Latvia, LETA was informed by State Chancellery communications department spokeswoman Sabine Spurke.

 Congratulating the ambassador on taking his post, Dombrovskis wished him all the best in helping to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the current areas, as well as find new areas of cooperation. The prime minister also talked about possibilities in developing transit cooperation in both directions – from Latvia and Uzbekistan, and from Uzbekistan to Latvia. According to him, new transport and transit initiatives could help stimulate economic integration, which is important in strengthening security, stability and economic development in the region.

 

At the same time, Dombrovskis mentioned perspective areas of cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan, including pharmaceuticals, food processing industry, IT, construction and the production of construction materials, education and tourism.

 

At the end of the meeting, Dombrovskis and Artikov described bilateral relations as constructive, while the ambassador pointed out that Uzbekistan sees Latvia as an important partner within the European Union and NATO.
